Mob led by family abducts newlywed woman from court premises in Punjab | Amritsar News

PATIALA: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly abducted in broad daylight by a group of 40 to 50 people, including her family members, in Patiala on Tuesday. The abduction took place just as the woman and her husband were entering the court premises to record their statements and seek police protection.
The couple, residents of Fatehgarh Sahib, had recently entered into an inter-caste marriage and sought police protection. The incident unfolded when they arrived at the court to fulfill the legal formalities required for their protection request.
According to the police, the group of perpetrators, which included women and family members, kidnapped the woman. The family had been opposing the marriage, but the couple managed to tie the knot four days ago. The police are registering a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including kidnapping, based on the husband’s statement.
The lawyers’ association has strongly condemned the incident, expressing concerns about a security breach on the court premises.
