According to police, two men on a scooter approached the two women and tried to start a conversation. When the younger woman objected to their advances, the men threw acid on her face and fled.The mother took her daughter to the district hospital from where she was referred to Gorakhpur district hospital. The survivor suffered around 7% burns but her condition is stable, the police said.

Maharajganj SP Kaustubh said an FIR has been registered and police are scanning 16 CCTVs installed around the crime spot to identify the accused.
Police have deployed 10 teams, including six under police station in-charges and two of special operations group. The teams are recording the statements of survivor’s family members and eyewitnesses.
A senior police officer said the survivor in her statement to the police said two men attacked but she doesn’t know them.
Police sources said the attack’s mastermind could be a jilted lover of the survivor and added that a surveillance team is scanning the phone numbers active in the area during the time of the attack.
